Claims Facebook Monitors Moods & Targets Advertisements

Wednesday 3rd May / presented by Em Burrows

Leaked reports suggest Facebook has told its advertisers it can now identify certain teenage psychological traits.

It seems the social network is informing advertisers it can monitor posts and photos to determine when young people feel "stressed, defeated, overwhelmed, anxious, nervous, stupid, silly, useless and a failure."

Facebook faced severe criticism in 2014 over research aimed at altering the emotions of users without their consent.

Curtin University Internet Studies Associate Professor Tama Leaver spoke to Em Burrows on The Mag to talk about these findings.
