Climate Conversation: Bushfire Season

Friday 29th November / presented by Taylah Strano

Every Friday we're keeping the climate conversation going, today Mike Papalia, Deputy chief Bushfire control officer at the shire of Harvey and Captain of the Leschenault Volunteer Fire Brigade, joins Taylah Strano to discuss bushfire season.

Its not even officially summer yet but around 80 fires still burn in NSW alone and the koala population has been decimated along with its habitat.

This morning we turn our attention to WA, where we've had our own fair share of bushfire emergencies, including the Yarloop fire in January 2016 where 121 homes where destroyed. Mike discusses memories from the tragic fire in Yarloop and the bushfire season since then, the increase in volunteer firefighters, what the fire risk looks like down South this season and how you can get ready for the bushfire season.
