Coalition Suspends Marine Sanctuaries

Tuesday 17th December / presented by James Hall

Federal Environment Minister Greg Hunt intends to water down management plans for the world’s largest marine park off the south-west coast. And immediately, has eliminated fishing exclusion zones in breeding zones and waters that are home to threatened species.

The process to implement the marine reserves began 20 years ago under the Keating government and continued with the Howard government. Many are concerned this thorough, expensive and scientific consultation process will be lost.
