Colour, dance, light…and opals

The precious opal can express every colour in the visible spectrum.

And a new work opening at PICA incorporates dance, sound and light to produce a result as hypnotic as the opal’s play of colour.

Jade Dewi Tyas Tunggal has trained internationally in everything from Japanese martial arts to African dance and ballet, and uses this to choreograph a ritualistic contemporary dance.

Set to a score laden with viola by Ria Soemardjo, and with a complex lighting design by Paula Van Beek, the result is Opal Vapour, opening tomorrow.The three artists behind Opal Vapour with us now…
