Directors’ Cut: a pervasive curtain call

Directors' Cut is a new exhibition at the John Curtin Gallery showcasing the distinctive views of past and present curators of the collection.

In the world of the theatre, curtain calls celebrate the prowess of prima donnas, delightful divas and terrific tenors. Within the visual arts, the frequency with which a work is selected by curators attest to its acclaim as high art. Over time, Curtin University has acquired an unwieldy collection of artworks that reveal not only changes in styles and artistic practices but also the tastes of various arts management policies and committees.

Curtin academic Dr Ann Schilo from the school of art has floor talk on Wednesday 27 June. In this talk, while looking at the works in this exhibition and reflecting upon the history of the Curtin University Art Collection, Dr Ann Schilo will consider how this Directors’ Cut is a persuasive curtain call.

James Hall spoke to Dr Anne Schilo about her upcoming talk.
