Dr Ben Rich: is the rise of cultural and religious extremism an election issue?

Whether it’s happening online or taking place in the real world, cultural or religious extremism is an increasingly present feature in our society. Marginalised communities become the targets of threatening or hateful acts, and conspiracy theories easily gain traction online spreading harmful misinformation.

While events like these are becoming more noticeable and receiving regular media coverage, especially in the wake of international events, how much are they becoming an election issue for Australian voters? And how can the government meaningfully address the rise in extremism and give support to those affected by such attacks?

Dr. Ben Rich, senior lecturer in History and International Relations at Curtin University joins Fiona Bartholomaeus for  On the Record.
