Dr. Jazz

Wednesday 17th April / posted by Will Backler

Sydney-based Dr. Steve Barry is a pianist, composer and improviser, whose music playfully blurs the lines between tradition and experimentation. Whether solo piano pieces or working with groups, his music consistently pushes boundaries, with interesting arrangements and expert instrumentation.

Ahead of his Perth gig at The Ellington Jazz Club (in trio mode alongside local legends Daniel Susnjar and Jamie Oehlers), Barry swung past Wednesday Out To Lunch with RTRFM music director Will Backler to give us the low down on his approach to composition, playing without bass, and what it's like to be a lecturer at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

All live musical performances are included in our podcasts with the express permission of artists, who reserve all other rights in their music. All music used in our podcasts is licensed under an APRA Community Broadcasting license agreement.
