Dr. Laura Driessen: Saturn’s newly recognised moons

Saturn recently acquired 128 newly recognised moons, bringing its official total to 274 and eclipsing the rest of the planets in our solar system as the planet with the most moons in its orbit.

The discoveries were made by astronomers at the Academia Sinica in Taiwan and given recognition by the International Astronomical Union.

But why have so many only just been discovered now? And what is the criteria for a moon to be classified?

Dr. Laura Driessen, a radio astronomer and postdoctoral researcher at the University of Sydney chats with Fiona Bartholomaeus.
