Erika de Casier is Sensational

Copenhagen-based artist Erika de Casier has quickly become a worldwide sensation since the release of her debut album Essentials in 2019, taking inspiration from the greats such as Aaliyah and Janet Jackson mixed with with modern house, garage and techno that breathes fresh life into 90s/00s-leaning RnB.

Following a cancelled 2020 Australian tour, de Casier is back with her sophomore record Sensational due out on May 21 via label 4AD. The record tackles dismantling the stereotype of single women looking for love, relationship dramas and the toxicity of dating – even including some co-written lyrics from her CEO alterego Bianka who you can find on LinkedIn.

Thursday Out to Lunch’s Kailyn Crabbe caught up with Erika ahead of the record’s release to talk about the inspirations behind Sensational, her empowering lyricism and how her background in production shapes her sound.
