Film director Alena Lodkina on her new film Petrol

Petrol is a new Australian film being released into cinemas this week. Set in Naarm/Melbourne, it follows a young film student named Eva (Nathalie Morris from the TV show Bump) who becomes friends with an elusive performance artist named Mia (Hannah Lynch). What follows is a relationship that incites romance, creativity, mystery and even ghosts within Eva’s experience of the world.

Petrol is the second feature film from director-writer Alena Lodkina. On Thursday 25 May at 6:00pm, Luna Cinemas Leederville is hosting a Q and A screening of Petrol with Alena who is in town, and this is a great chance to see this new strange, surreal movie and get to hear more about it from the filmmaker. More details about the event are here.

Movie Squad’s Tristan Fidler spoke to Alena about her new movie, beginning with the meaning behind the title, Petrol.
