FITTER | HAPPIER: Safety Surrounding ‘Wheeled’ Sports
Following the debut of Skateboarding at the Tokyo Olympics, the Olympians involved in the games have resonated among kids across Western Australia.
Since 2015 however, nearly three-thousand Western Australian children, (including five percent who wore helmets), have represented the emergency departments due to skateboard and other small-wheeled device-related injuries, prompting organisations such as Kidsafe WA to promote safety measures within ‘wheeled’ sporting activities.
On this week’s episode of Fitter Happier, Scott Phillips – Chief Executive Officer of Kidsafe WA joins presenter Madeleine Lombardi in the studio, to discuss the matters involving parental supervision, the extra measures to be taken for reducing risk of injuries, including whether general practitioners and urgent care are capable of handling ‘wheeled’ sporting accidents.
