FITTER | HAPPIER: Year 8s Advised to Follow Through with HPV Vaccines

Thursday 5th October / presented by Chris Mason

All Year 8 W.A students are offered free doses of childhood vaccines in aim of protecting them from a range of vaccine-preventable diseases as they descend into adulthood... Human Papillomavirus Infection (HPV) is one of the diseases being vaccinated within the program.

The HPV vaccine is given through a series of shots throughout the school year, and protects the individual against cancers such as cervical, penile, throat and mouth; as well as protecting the individual against obtaining genital warts.
For maximum protection against HPV, it’s important to finish the series and if missed a dose, you will be offered a catch up in the next school term.

Jo Daily is the Nurse Consultant for the Child and Adolescent Health Service of Western Australia, and she came in to tell us more about the disease-preventing program.
