Girls Day

Thursday 9th October / presented by Chris Wheeldon

Some believe the battle for gender equality has been fought and won by feminists of the 1960’s. Nope.

In AUstralia one in four women will face some form of sexual harassment or will be disadvantaged in their life due to their gender.

Women are still, on average paid 20% less then their male colleagues and young women face a constant barrage of gender based jokes and stereotypes.

Plan Australia has launched a website, www.becauseimagirl.com.au, asking some prominant Australian women to pen a letter to their 16 year old selves.

Youth Reporter Merren Reed caught up with Plan Australia Deputy CEO Suzanne Legane.

Merren also sat down with some prominent West Australian’s and let them speak to their 16 year old selves.
