Gnome War in South-West

Monday 19th October / presented by Chris Wheeldon

20 minutes south of Bunbury is a beautiful place - home to beef farms, vineyards and the world's largest public congregation of garden gnomes – Gnomesville.

A push to attract tourism to the region beyond the gnomes has received polarising responses from council members and local folk. The move hopes to attract a solid tourism base, helping the area compete with popular centres Margaret River and Dunsborough. However, many farmers suggest the initiative would increase noise and trespassing, significantly affecting livestock and land. Dardanup Shire President Mick Bennett is behind the push and was here to discuss it with Chris Wheeldon.
