Government Launching First Ever Clinical Guidelines

Wednesday 16th March / presented by Tanya Bunter

Dementia is the second leading cause of death in Australia, with the disease set to affect almost one million Australians by 2050.

To help combat this disease, the Minister for Health Sussan Ley has launched the first Australian Guidelines on dementia today.

According to Ms. Ley, the evidence-based guidelines were developed and designed specifically for Australia including, health care professionals and people caring for people with dementia.

Professor Susan Kurrle, Director and Chief Investigator of the Cognitive Decline Partnership Centre, joined Tanya on The Mag to discuss these new guidelines.

A consumer summit and a redesigned app have coincided with the launch of Australia's new dementia guidelines.

More than 70 people and their carers have come together for the National Consumer Summit, to discuss Australia's growing dementia rates, with parliamentarians in Canberra.

Meanwhile popular application BrainyApp has been redesigned to help people reduce the risks of dementia and improve their brain health.

Alzheimer's Australia National President Graeme Samuel joined Tanya Bunter on The Mag to discuss these new developments and the dementia guidelines.
