Homelessness Week 2018: Panel Discussion

Tuesday 7th August / presented by Jeff Bullen

This week is National Homelessness Week. It’s a chance to look at homelessness as an issue, and raise awareness for homelessness in our community. The 2018 theme is “there’s always something you can do”, focusing on what we can do to end homelessness and support people experiencing homelessness.

One idea comes from a movement called YIMBY.  A YIMBY is a person who thinks they live somewhere great and who wants to share that great place with others. YIMBY stands for Yes In My Back Yard, and is primarily is based around the ethos that cities need to be affordable and accessible for all members of the community. The YIMBY movement acts to support the development of cities to increase housing density in order to increase affordability and improve community diversity.

Jeff Bullen was joined by a panel of experts to discuss what we can do to decrease homelessness in our communities. Karyn Lochore, the Senior Policy Officer from Shelter WA and Dan Pearce a partner at Robert Day Planning Design joined us in the studio.
