James McNamara, an Australian abroad

James McNamara is an award-winning British-Australian writer, based in Los Angeles.

Television work includes comedy and drama writers rooms for the Academy Award-winning See-Saw Films, Matchbox Pictures / NBC Universal, Foxtel, ABC, Porchlight Films, and Endemol Shine, and developing shows for Goalpost Pictures and Playmaker/Sony Pictures.

For the theater, James co-wrote Radio With Pictures, which sold out at the Sydney Opera House.

James is also a highly accomplished non-fiction writer, focusing on American culture and politics.
His essays and literary criticism have appeared in the New York Times, Washington Post, The Spectator, LA Review of Books, Denver Post, Times Literary Supplement, The Australian, and Australian Book Review, where he also sits on the editorial advisory board.

James was recently named a BAFTA LA Newcomer, BAFTA’s new talent initiative “recognising and supporting international rising stars who have recently moved to Los Angeles”.

James Hall spoke with James about life in L.A. and his upcoming projects.
