Journalism might soon become a crime

Australian journalists’ ability to report look set to be severely curtailed with the introduction of sweeping changes to privacy laws.  ASIO might soon have the power to monitor the internet within Australia.

Journalists and whistle-blowers could face up to 10 years’ jail for disclosing or publishing classified information.

The Law Reform Commission has recommended a public interest defense should be built into new privacy laws, protecting journalists and whistle-blowers from potential jail time.

Journalist and broadcaster Paul Barry was with us to discuss this contentious issue…
