Justice for Miss Dhu

Wednesday 22nd October / presented by James Hall

She failed to pay a one thousand dollar fine and she paid the ultimate price.

Just a month ago a young Indigenous woman at the mere age of 22, referred to as Miss Dhu, died in Port Hedland Police custody.

This tragedy has come after years of countless Aboriginal deaths in custody, even during this period of proclaimed reconciliation.

Her loved ones said she was a “young & beautiful Yamatji woman who is now very sadly a Western Australian Death In Police Custody “Statistic” as of August 4th, 2014.”

Family and friends have reached out to the wider community and asked for anyone to join them at a rally against Deaths in Custody.

One of the organisers of the event, Vanessa Colbung spoke to James Hall.
