Melbourne Cup – Coalition for the Protection of Race Horses

Today, millions of Australians will do as they have for generations; tune in to Melbourne Cup day.

Some might make bets, some might enjoy  a day at the races or here in Perth, take longer lunch breaks than usual to watch.

But, it’s also a day where an animal rights debate re-enters public limelight. Animal rights groups hail Cup day as among the cruellest in our country’s calendar; one where a nation turn up in our frocks and fascinators to watch a three-minute race that could result in the injury or even death of its equestrian competitors.

RTRFM’s Jeff Bullen caught up with ELIO CELETTO, the campaign director of The Coalition for the Protection of Race Horses earlier to discuss the issue...
