More than just bees

Bees - amazing critters when you think about it, not only for their production of that sweet sweet honey, but their cross pollination which makes so many of our fruits and vegetables possible.

But the little fellas are in threat.

The world’s bee population is declining in huge numbers, probably from use of pesticides used on the world’s corn, wheat, soy and cottonseeds, but also from general human destructiveness.

And the disappearance of bees could lead to an environmental catastrophe.Oscar-nominated documentary maker Markus Imhoff has collaborated with husband and wife scientists based at UWA, Barbara Baer-Imhoff and Boris Baer, to produce a film on the issue called More Than Honey.

 It closes this year’s Festival of German Films and Barbara and Boris are with me this morning…
