Music of Connie Converse brought to Australia in new concert

1974, American songwriter Connie Converse packed her belongings into her Volkswagen Beetle, mailed a series of goodbye letters—and disappeared. Her hauntingly intimate songs, unheard for decades, are now being rediscovered.

Finding Connie is a moving new concert from Mirabilis Collective, and the Australian premiere of Converse’s music. Reimagined for chamber ensemble, this 75-minute performance features brand-new arrangements and powerful storytelling, brought to life by a multigenerational group of women musicians in collaboration with composers and performers from the UWA Conservatorium of Music.

Finding Connie’s cellist and dramaturg, Elena Wittkuhn, joins Artbeat’s Bec Bowman to chat about Connie Converse, how the concert came to be, Mirabilis Collective, and the Collective’s mission to platform the artistry of women.
