NSW Introduces Aboriginal Languages to High Schools

Thursday 3rd December / presented by Chris Mason

Next year Aboriginal languages will become HSC subjects.

Although it won't count toward student ATARs, the shift aims to make young Aboriginal people the future custodians of their languages, and empower them to maintain a strong sense of indigenous identity.

The Mag's Tanya Bunter spoke to NSW Minister for Aboriginal Affairs Leslie Williams about the importance of Australian schools teaching students their own language and whether WA could follow this lead.
