Opening the Aviary

Hailing from Los Angeles, musician and composer Julia Holter has been enticing audiences with her broadly labelled "art-pop" sound since the release of her debut studio album Tragedy in 2011. Seven years on, Holter has released a series of albums and collaborations, leading up to her breathtaking  5th studio album, Aviary.

A recent RTRFM feature album,  Aviary is a 15 track epic that truly displays the diversity and skill of Holter's compositions. The new album explores emotion and existence in modern society, dealing with themes of love, expression and empathy.

RTRFM Music Coordinator and Out To Lunch presenter Will Backler caught up with Holter to discuss the new album, her creative processes, and what Australian audiences can expect from her 2019 headline shows. Will started off by asking Holter about the origin's of the title of Aviary, particularly how it related to a short story by author Etel Adnan...
