Opposition Sledges Art Attack

The Federal Budget has flagged over $100 millions in cuts from the arts – with many afraid all cultural pursuits will suffer.
Just one of the art companies that will be affected is a hero of Australian arts production, Screen Australia – it will endure a loss of $38 million, affecting not only television and films but also game production.

Games have been hit – the Australian Interactive Games Fund has gone. Ballet’s done ok but the Australia Council will lose $28 million over four years. Labor’s Get Reading program’s gone; saving $1.6m a year.

Federal Shadow Minister for the arts Mark Dreyfus says it will all have a  ‘devastating impact’ on arts and cultural activities across Australia – he’s with me this morning…
