Peace Time

Monday 16th December / presented by Rewi Lyall

It’s peace-time – yet Queensland Premier Campbell Newman has quietly appointed former colleague and military officer Brigadier Bill Mellor to the position

of controlling anti-bikie strategy against outlaw motorcycle gangs, despite having no direct experience of civilian law enforcement or Australian organised crime.

How is using military experience in domestic circumstances beneficial?

Is military responses to domestic and civil problems placing a more regimented approach to these issues?

Gladstone Independent MP in QLD Liz Cunningham was sacked as chair of the Parliamentary Crime and Misconduct Committee after questioning the appointment an ex-military officer to manage Civil Law Enforcement.

Liz joined Morning Magazine this morning to talk about this important issue.
