Police Budget Cuts

Tuesday 9th October / posted by Chris Wheeldon

The State Government plans to make a number of budget cuts in the near future, and the West Australian Police Force is the latest victim. Ordered to find savings of $31 million, Commissioner Karl O’Callaghan has promised front line services won’t be affected.

However, Colin Barnett promised to employ an additional 700 workers to the force by 2014. Given the budget cuts, this now seems a monumental task for the Government, although Treasurer Troy Buswell says it is on track to fulfil this promise.

Shadow Police Minister Michelle Roberts said there is no way the Government can achieve this, and she was on the line to talk about this issue.
