Premier Roger Cook joins Pam for Brekky to get behind Radiothon 2023
WA Premier Roger Cook joined Breakfast host Pamela Boland for Radiothon 2023 this morning, to talk about the importance of supporting community radio, marathon running, listening to EDM and being newbies in their respective jobs.
“I want everyone to get behind Radiothon,” he said.
“[RTRFM] is such an important institution for everyone to own, because it is a community radio station, so that sense of community ownership is really important.
“I encourage everyone to do the right thing, get on board, support Radiothon and get behind RTRFM, a great arts and culture institution in Western Australia.”
The Premier also spoke about his past with the station, and listening to The Stems, The Triffids and The Jam Tarts.
“It was compulsory to listen to Drive on 6UVS every afternoon,” he said.
“It was the most alternative music you could ever find. If they played Joy Division that is about as melodic as it got. But it was such an institution and such an important part of our lives in university.”
“[RTRFM] really allows you to just be connected to the arts scene in Western Australia,” he added.
“Obviously music’s a huge part of that but of course it’s about bringing that arts and culture community together. That’s why we’re so proud of RTRFM and what it’s done for decades, and really just be that mainstay of that community.”
