PREMIERE: Float Beneath the Sun with Jon Vayla

Thursday 29th November / posted by Will Backler

Perth's Jon Vayla is no stranger to making serious noise, being an essential member of the acclaimed local metallers Bolt Gun, with constructing dense musical atmospheres coming with seeming ease. However, instead of evoking terror and cacophony with such pieces like Man is Wolf to Man as a member of Bolt Gun, Vayla's new solo voyage Float Beneath the Sun stirs meditation and reflection.

Spanning four huge tracks, rich neo-classical string arrangements swirl and low-end drone rumbles combine to create an incredibly full and cinematic listen.

The title track, Float Beneath the Sun is as diverse as it is expansive, while Dragged from the River provides dissonance and a drone edge, and cinematic epics LVA-77 and Credits Theme wash over and overtake a listener.

Vayla dropped into RTRFM to visit to Ai-Ling on Posted, chatting about the release and the influences behind it, which you can listen to here, and you can stream the full album exclusively here before it drops on Monday, December 3!
