Refugee Displacement Rising

Thursday 4th July / presented by Jorja Keay

The numbers of refugees and displaced peoples around the world is growing with around 68.5 million men, women and children being driven from their homes due to war, violence and persecution in 2018.

Increasingly, refugees are being persecuted and driven from their homeland by their own governments often because of ethnicity or religious belief.

University of Wollongong Associate Professor Phil Orchard has released a paper recommending how the world community should respond to nations deliberately turning their own citizens into refugees.

Phil Orchard spoke to RTRFM about his discussion.
