Revolver’s History of Feminist Music 2019 CBAA Community Radio Award Winner

The Community Broadcasting Association of Australia just announced the winners of its 2019 Community Radio Awards, with RTRFM's Revolver winning the award for the best musical program with Revolver's month-long spotlight on feminist music, broadcast in March of this year.

To tie in with International Women's Day, throughout March, presenter Elle Cee showcased the contemporary music of women from many genres and styles in an ascending chronology, going from the jazzy and soulful 50s and 60s, to the early post-punk of the 70s and 80s, to the riot grrl and queercore movements of the 90s and the hip-hop from the 90s to today.

During the program, Elle Cee demonstrated the biggest exposures of women in music, the context of their work and popularity and why the female perspective in art is so important to this day, alongside what made it stand out in periods where it was even more underplayed. Revolver's History of Feminist Music also showcased lesser known acts that were no less important in their influence or outspoken in their stances of feminist solidarity.

You can check out episodes 3 and 4 of Revolver's History of Feminist Music below, with episode 3 focusing on 80s music and episode 4 taking us to the 90s and the era of riot grrl.
