Rewind on RTRFM – 16 July 2021

This week, Rewind covers comedy, culture, and a sobering study into misogyny in the local music industry.

First up, Taylah Strano catches up with the best friends-turned-double act behind Power of the Dream, an extremely bingeable digital series about to Olympic hopefuls. They talk about growing up in the shadow of the 2000 Sydney games and work out which mascot was which – was it Syd, Millie, Ollie?

Next, a hyper-local story from Freo – Jeff Bullen talks to a curator from the Fremantle Arts Centre about her exhibition Underneath/Overlooked. It’s a celebration of the astonishing terazzo tiles that came out of one migrant couple’s tile factory, operating between 1950 and 1973 and discovered almost by accident.

And finally, Olivia di Iorio presents a package about damning new research that suggests an alarmingly high number of women in the Australian and New Zealand music industries have experienced sexual harassment. She speaks to the study’s author and survivors about what this means for WA women. Heads up – this story deals with some difficult themes, including sexual assault.

Rewind is RTRFM’s talks digest, a round-up of the station’s most notable stories. Each episode features three of the most thought-provoking, timely, or surprising pieces put to air – plus a quick overview of what’s been on our radar. For everything else, check out the features published on our website – or tune in live on 92.1.
