Roelands Village Festival – Moorditj Mag

Roelands Native Mission Farm acted as a self-sustaining farm also housing Indigenous children who were removed from their families across the state. Sporadically, the farm housed over nearly 100 Aboriginal children at a time, and ultimately homed over 500 children from the stolen generation. Established in 1938 and located in the Bunbury Region of W.A; the farm closed down and was opened shortly afterwards a new facility was opened by the Churches of Christ Federal Aborigines Mission Board Inc. The property, now known as Roelands Village, is now administered by the Woolkabunning Kiaka Inc. after it was founded in 1974.

Woolkabunning Kiaka Inc. looks at creating a positive place for healing and development for the children and their families who were placed at the Roelands Mission Farm throughout the 1940s until the early 1970s,

Les Wallam is the CEO at Roelands Village and is responsible for overseeing the running and operations corncerning the village, operations ran by Woolkabunning Kiaka included. He spoke with the Moorditj Mag men today, with hope of informing listeners more regarding the history of Roelands mission farm and village, as well promoting the Roelands Village Festival, happening May 4th.
