RTRFM Feature: Floodlight’s expansive new record Painting of My Time

Naarm/Melbourne alt-rockers Floodlights have been delivering their intense and emotional brand of post-punk meets Aussie rock & roll since 2019 — at first squarely fitting into the mould set by 2010s Melbourne indie groups like Twerps and Dick Diver.

On their second album, Painting of My Time, they move toward a sound that’s more expansive, even a little strange, expanding and pushing their sound ever so so slightly into new directions.

Painting of My Time is an album consistent in its signature, evocative lyricism, elaborating on themes of personal turbulence, self-exploration, and the Australian landscape as a form of escapism.

Louis and Archie from the band join RTRFM’s Matt Perrett to chat about the record, starting by checking in with how the band is going ahead of the album launch on April 21.
