Safer Venues for Everyone

Friday 8th March / presented by Bec Bowman

Rose and Kate from Safer Venues join Bec on Artbeat for International Women's Day, to discuss their pilot program and how they help combat sexual assault and harassment. Many women, particularly in the arts, have experienced some form of this discrimination or violence, particularly in live music venues in Perth.

They discuss a lot of changes that can be implemented to reduce such risks, including; signage, procedural responses, environmental alterations and equity of performers. A case study will be available soon to show the effectiveness of these interceptions, in the interest of bringing about state government action.

This pilot program will include communication, and putting together a team to consult and train. Rose and Kate give advice for those in the venue and hospitality industry, and will continue to update and educate as Safer Venues grows.

They're also looking for volunteers! You can get in touch with them at their Facebook Page, or at hello.svwa@gmail.com. Have a safe International Women's Day!
