Selfless Orchestra on the importance of the story behind new single Yeelirrie

Made up of a plethora of Boorloo musicians and filmmakers, local ensemble Selfless Orchestra are known for marrying music and activism.

Throughout the years they have actively supported environmental and social justice causes.

Their newest project is no exception: single Yeelirrie is a song written in reflection of the unique land that has been persistently under threat and the valiant determination of the community that has stood up to defend it for 50 years.

Recorded in the goldfields in the abandoned Coolgardie Train Station and engineered by Karnivool (WA) guitarist Drew Goddard who also played drums on this recording. Released alongside the single is a book: ‘The story of Yeelirrie and 50 years of resistance,’ released by Conservation Council of WA celebrating the power of solidarity, unity and resistance and survival over multinational companies and politics.

Selfless Orchestra’s Steven Alyian and WA Conservation Council member Mia Pepper drop by the RTRFM studios to chat with Drivetime‘s Tim and Em about their intersecting projects.
