Sophie Hutchings is Wide Asleep

Monday 19th September / presented by Will Backler

Sydney musician Sophie Hutchings writes tragedies with a piano, strings and a ghostly voice.

It’s the kind of music that draws comparisons to Max Richter and Nils Frahm — rooted in the classical tradition and imbued with the introspection of modern ambient composers.

On her fourth album Wide Asleep, Sophie Hutchings crafts breathtaking and heartbreaking melodies, rich with nuance and emotional complexity.

Will Backler of Out to Lunch caught up with Sophie over the phone started off by asking why she chose to name the album Wide Asleep.
