UWA’s International Space Centre face the complex demand for space batteries
With an increase in space science and research over the last few years, it makes sense that energy consumption will also increase. So hence the need and demand for longer lasting Nuclear Powered Batteries.
The ultra long-lasting batteries are a new type of technology that’s currently in development and Australia is playing the leading role in it’s creation.
Professor Dongke Zhang from the University of Western Australia’s International Space Centre joins Fiona Bartholomaeus, to discuss how the development and structure of nuclear batteries differentiate from standard batteries that we use in our day to day lives, including the reasoning behind the growing space and defence industries calling for better batteries due to their demand for long-life power sources.
