The Drugs Ain’t Real

Tuesday 11th June / presented by Andy Snelling

Last week a Sydney schoolboy died after getting high on a $2 legal LSD-like substance.

It is likely he thought he was taking LSD, when in reality it was either 25B-NBOMe or 25I-NBOMe, both of which can be legally imported through the internet.

Police say the drug is “very, very new” to them and are already mobilising to draft legislation to add the drugs to a list of prohibited substances.

It is prohibition, though, that is the very reason this drug exists in the first place, and there is a good chance these new drugs are much more harmful than the outlawed drugs they provide an alternative to.

Andy spoke to Professor Stephen Bright of Curtin University.
