Love in a crazy climate: The Mikado

Thursday 9th May / presented by Bec Bowman

First performed in 1885, THE MIKADO sees lovers young and old grapple with their self-absorption as they pursue each other obsessively in a land where flirtation has been outlawed. Though set in a kitschy, exotic version of Imperial Japan, the Glbert and Sullivan classic is a hilarious dig at the pomposity of British society.

The Mikado is presented by the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of WA and will be performed at the Dolphin Theatre at UWA in May.

Last week two of the show's stars, Brigitte Heuser and Marli Van der Bijil, joined Bec Bowman on Artbeat to talk about the colour, chaos and satire of the beloved operetta.
