The Panic/Desire of Simona Castricum

Wednesday 1st July / presented by Elle Cee

On All Things Queer, Elle Cee talks to Melbourne based musician, performer, DJ and architecture academic, Simona Castricum.

Chat about her new album Panic/Desire, her third full length album which she created over the past 3 years, whilst completing a PhD.

They chat about collaborating with other artists, how Panic/Desire serves as the musical soundtrack to her PhD in Architecture at the Melbourne School of Design, presenting her ideas and experiences in a different format from an academic thesis, such as in a 10 song album to make it a more accessible, the struggles of being an artist and performer during Covid-19 times and more.

Of the album, Simona says "it is experiences of the city as a gender nonconforming person; songs about how I move and navigate through the city in the night; how I find a place of belonging — somewhere between my fears and desires"

Not only does her work talk about the risk of the city, but also about "how we've survived and how we celebrate and how we find community and how music is a great way of articulating that experience".
