‘The Staging Post’ Documentary

Wednesday 20th March / presented by Fiona Bartholomaeus

This week is Harmony Week, when we celebrate Australia's cultural diversity and embrace inclusiveness. As part of these celebrations the Town of Bassendean are running an exclusive screening of documentary The Staging Post.

The Staging Post is a documentary film that follow two Afghan Hazara refugees, Muzafar and Khadim and their experiences of suddenly being stuck in Indonesia after Australia 'stopped the boats.'

After spending time with the other refugees stuck in limbo, the two of them started to create a community and a school for refugee children, which inspired an education revolution. They continued working to make the lives of those stuck in limbo better.

Muzafar Ali was kinda enough to talk to us on The Mag to discuss his experiences as a refugee, the film and the refugee advocacy work that he's done.
