To Oscar on the longest road trip of (his) life
Boorloo/Perth-based producer and songwriter To Oscar has released his debut album longest road trip of my life.
It’s a truly exciting patchwork of 21st-century bedroom pop infused with offshoots of hyper-pop, folk and sample-based beat science.
longest road trip of my life sees To Oscar gleefully throw the ‘pop’ rule book out the window, pushing bedroom production to an overblown maximum. A quick scan through this “12 track chronicling of a strange journey” will yield snippets of electronics-driven emo, noise rock, shoegaze, industrial trap and experimental folk.
Although this is their first formal full length release, To Oscar has been releasing music under the moniker for a few years now.
Having carved out his space amongst niche internet subcultures, it’s clear ‘To Oscar’ understands his audience and those who are supposed to get it, get it. It’s deep internet culture brain rot material (a compliment in this case) with unexpected poetic undertones.
To Oscar joined Breakfast’s Pam Boland to discuss the new album, his influences, internet culture and more.
