Understorey – Bulldozing the Beeliar

Wednesday 18th September / presented by Elizabeth PO’ Adrian Glamorgan

Is the new EPA recommendation to bulldoze through the unique Beeliar Wetlands to build Roe 8 - at the cost of $700 million to taxpayers - simply a mess of contradictions, given the EPA's own 2003 Report 1088? Understorey goes along to a packed public meeting on Tuesday 17 Sept which heard the arguments against Roe 8 - and vowed to appeal and oppose the four lane extension until the plan is brought to a permanent halt.

Whatever your view, you have until Friday 27 September to lodge your appeal.

The EPA has recommended approval for the Roe 8 highway extension through the Beeliar Wetlands - now it only needs the thumbs up from the Barnett Government to get the go ahead.

Opponents say it shouldn't happen - that its using 700 million dollars to tear apart one of the states most important wetland ecosystems to make a redundant highway.

The Conservation Council of WA (CCWA) is deeply concerned and Andy spoke to its Director Piers Verstegan earlier that morning.
