Understorey; Bush Sham or Plan?

Wednesday 1st June / presented by Elizabeth PO’ Adrian Glamorgan

Will our urban bushland continue to suffer serious decline by a thousand cuts?  Or is there now just one shiny planning axe being sharpened to fell much of our distinctive Banksia bushland?

Serious concerns continue to be raised by more than 70 bushland groups around Perth about the state government’s proposed Perth “Green” Growth Plan.  Mary Gray from the Urban Bushland Council explains how the planning changes would overlook significant past conservation commitments, while Piers Verstegen, director of the Conservation Council, warns of the possible demise of habitats sheltering thousands of urban Carnaby cockatoos.

Meanwhile, the federal government has its own environment responsibilities for Perth, and political parties have voters to consider.  What different policies are likely to increase ecological amenity in Perth?
