Understorey: Gasfield Western Australia

Wednesday 12th October / presented by Elizabeth PO’ Adrian Glamorgan

The Barnett Liberal government is permitting "exploration" for fracking, with promises of future unconventional gasfields across the state. However, a national coalition of farmers, conservationists and community called Lock the Gate Alliance argues that fracking, and intrusive gasfields, represent a massive risk. Labor is promising a fracking ban for the South West, Peel and Perth, but hasn't committed to the Mid West or Kimberley. Lock the Gate believes that's a good start, but highlight experience over east demonstrating that intrusive gasfields are damaging precious water, precious places, and high quality farming land, and represent a hazard to public health.

Understorey meets with national campaigners Annie Kia and Simon Clough, who have been sharing their stories, and what they've been learning about the Western Australian campaigns. (Photo: Annie Kia, Simon Clough, by A. Glamorgan)
