Understorey: On the Verge of Carbon Neutral

Wednesday 11th May / presented by Elizabeth PO’ Adrian Glamorgan

Since the climate change agreement in Paris, Australian environmentalists have been keenly watching state and federal governments for concerted action. Yet even as Southern Hemisphere concentrations of carbon dioxide set to tip the 400 parts per million, global temperatures break new records, and extreme events hit from Alberta to Chile, a “business-as-usual” vibe pervades many current decisions and programs.

By contrast, suburban ecologist Tim Frodsham has number-crunched the carbon output of street verges, and creatively hooked himself up with a recumbent tricycle, trailer, electric lawn mower, and solar panel.  He mows zero emission lawns, and then suggest water-wise replacements.  A hopeful look at what can be done in cooperation with local councils and community groups: another program in our occasional Verge series.
