Understorey: South West Forests and Uganda

Wednesday 12th June / presented by Elizabeth PO’ Adrian Glamorgan

The South West is recognised as one of fifty global biodiversity hotspots, but the rare South West forests are under threat.  World's scientists are joining to sign a statement calling for our state government to take urgent measures.

Of the remaining South West forests, about forty per cent is under threat from clearing and logging. Add to this the effects of climate change, forest diseases, destructive fires, logging and mining , South West forest ecosystems are under enormous stress.

An Environment Matters forum co-sponsored by the Conservation Council of WA, and the WA Forest Alliance met last week to focus on the forests and hear from independent scientists Grant Wardell-Johnson, Mike Calver and Mark Andrich. Understorey was there, and also met with Jess Beckerling from WA Forest Alliance.
