Understorey: Sustainable Schools

Tuesday 7th February / presented by Elizabeth PO’

This week on Understorey, a special on the First Carbon Neutral High School in Australia. Back in 2007, South Fremantle Senior High School took a look at its 567 tonnes of Greenhouse Gases emitted each year and decided to do something practical about it.

And its not just about putting solar panels on the roof, though they are there too. The P&C organized a tree planting to provide food for the Carnaby Black Cockatoo.

Hospitality students learn about the environmental costs of food production and transport. Theres strong student, teacher and wider community engagement.

Understorey meets South Fremantle Senior High Sustainability Project Officer, Kathy Anketell, to hear how a high school near you could go carbon neutral.
