Understorey: The Life Aquatic Part 2

Wednesday 24th April / presented by Elizabeth PO’ Adrian Glamorgan

Our speaker is Professor Callum Roberts is a Marine Conservation Biologist, Oceanographer, Author and Research Scholar at the University of York in England / and is recognized as one of the world's leading marine scientists and science communicators.

Professor Roberts' research has revealed the extraordinary rise and fall of fisheries across the world over the last 200 years. He has focused in particular on the effects of marine reserves closed to all fishing / work which directly resulted in the creation of the world's first network of marine protected areas on the high seas in the North Atlantic Ocean.

He is perhaps best known for his highly acclaimed book, The Unnatural History of the Sea, which was recently followed by a new publication, Ocean of Life, revealing the richness of the deep, the unprecedented threat it faces, and how we can arrest and reverse the damage we are doing.

Callum Roberts was recently in Perth to deliver the 2013 David Thomas Conservation Oration and today we present a little more of his address about the necessity and untold urgency for a new deal for the Oceans.
